The Data
Trauma, whether PTSD or developmental, is a serious medical problem that can lead to substance use and mental health disorders and make it harder to maintain recovery.
Trauma, unfortunately, is very common in our society. Research indicates that 40 percent of people with PTSD also experience substance use disorders. Identifying underlying trauma, treating its affects, and learning to reduce future trauma exposures is crucial to restoring normal functioning and the ability to sustain recovery.

Deeper Approach
Addressing trauma in all its forms on individuals and family systems
Foundry Steamboat is founded on the idea that trauma, whether PTSD, developmental, or adverse life events, is a prominent feature of addictive disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Identifying untreated trauma and helping to process and resolve its effects is crucial to allowing people to enter recovery. Also vital is the need to understand the implications of addiction on entire family systems and help families restore healthy behaviors and communication to restore quality of life for all members and support the recovery of their loved one.
Learn MoreModeling a recovery supportive lifestyle
Foundry Steamboat medical staff are experienced at assessing and treating medical problems that often co-occur with substance use disorders. Whether providing supervised medical care for residential clients, or coordinating with a client's specialized medical care providers, Foundry Steamboat prioritizes improving physical health to support lasting recovery.
The Trauma-Integrated Care practiced at Foundry Steamboat unifies all aspects of programming to create a trauma-informed and holistic treatment experience. Mindfullness-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MCBT), somatic experiencing, specialized curriculum, and coordinated services are used to help clients develop the skills to manage conditions and self-regulate their autonomic nervous system without the use of substances.
Trauma affects a surprisingly high percentage of our population and is a leading cause for substance use and mental health disorders. Our program is highly oriented toward meeting the needs of people for whom PTSD, developmental trauma, and adverse life events are underlying factors for substance use and co-occurring disorders. Clients receive trauma-informed care and specialized trauma therapies to relieve the effects of unprocessed trauma that are often a barrier to lasting recovery.
Foundry Steamboat believes that when one family member is affected by substance use and mental health disorders, all members are affected. Family programming is offered to all Foundry Steamboat clients.
The Barnes Family Institute at Foundry Steamboat makes intensive education and coaching support for families available to any family in need (even if a family member is not a Foundry Steamboat client).
A comprehensive approach to recovery should address physical and spiritual wellbeing. Our fully-equipped fitness center (currently under construction) and yoga, hiking, seed-to-plate horticulture program, and other recreational activities play a highly supportive role in helping residential clients feel better physically, reduce stress, and reconnect with normal activities that bring joy to life.
